Charlie Johnson is a self-driven, self-made, highly successful communicator with an innate
midwestern work ethic. His passion for developing and refining his talents to bring value to his
community and beyond began when he was just a boy listening to THE “True Don Blue” on
KDWB radio in Minneapolis and watching Dave Moore deliver his nightly newscast on WCCO-
TV. A career in radio and TV became his ambition.
It was that desire that drove Charlie to earn and thrive in positions as a disc jockey, radio host,
program director and news director, which soon led to assignments in television as a news
anchor, reporter and manager for most of his professional career. Nightly newscasts, hosting a
variety of programs, telethons and his own weekly news magazine show became part of the
fabric of Charlie’s life.
After working his way as a broadcaster through Lincoln, Nebraska, Duluth, Minnesota, Seattle
and Oklahoma City, Charlie transitioned into a career in higher education, becoming the Vice
President of University Communications at the University of Central Oklahoma. While there he
was a valued advisor and member of the President’s cabinet and drove the marketing and
communications efforts of the university, as well as serving as the official spokesman and voice
of the institution.
Charlie now lives with his wife in the Kansas City area where they love to spend time with their
granddaughters and travel. And despite being lifelong Vikings fans, they can’t help but wear red
on Sundays during football season!
